All Things Transcription

The next project for PACE Transcription is a jobs database. While I was doing research for this project, I came across something that really bothers me. I found a website that charges transcriptionists looking for employment to view the jobs listed. This is appalling. Certainly it is acceptable to charge employers to list their jobs. It is also usual to charge to view resumes. This is the business model for Monster and the other big guys.

I believe that it shows a lack of integrity to charge someone who is looking for employment to find a job. This is the very definition of a scam. On the particular website I am referring to I could find no information on how to post a job with them, so I can only think that the job seekers were the only ones being charged for this service. This is absolutely unconscionable.

Follow up:

If you are on a job search and interested in working at home, I would hope that you have visited sites that actively review companies that claim to have opportunities for work at home jobs. However, you must be aware that many of these sites are scams themselves. One of the tests of a scam is that these companies charge the job seeker some sort of fee for information about employment or to begin work. Guess what, a job means you are being paid, not the other way around.

So many people are suffering today. If you look past the national figures, you will find areas in the country that have huge unemployment figures. Even training for a new career may be useless if the major source of employment in a community disappears and nothing else is available in the immediate area. Finding a legitimate source of income that allows you to stay at home is a viable solution to this problem.

There are many really good opportunities to work from home. Medical Transcription is one of them. However, when you charge a transcriptionist to view jobs, you are merely taking advantage of someone who may already have some major trouble in their life. This qualifies as nothing but greed, pure and simple. Isn’t this a big part of the reason this country is in so much trouble in the first place?
