Rag Quilting Tutorial - Part 2
September 14th, 2009Okay here it is...
This is the finished quilt from the rag quilting tutorial. I think it turned out really well. The colors held up and it raveled out uniformly.
I would like to repeat that the main thing I believe needs to be purchased are a pair of the spring loaded clippers. They make the task of clipping the seams so much easier and faster.
This time I am going to use fabric paint to monogram one of the squares for the recipient. I haven't decided on the color yet.
To recap; You will need a sewing machine that is capable of sewing through several layers of fabric, the ability to measure and cut accurately, a sharp pair of scissors, fabric that will ravel, and a pair of those spring loaded clippers we talked about. It is a great hobby that I would encourage you to try.
Rag Quilting Tutorial - Part 1
September 10th, 2009I thought I would post a tutorial on rag quilting since there was a little interest in the previous post on this subject. This is a wonderful craft to try and requires only basic sewing skills. I find it to be quite enjoyable so here goes.
The Joys of Rag Quilting
July 16th, 2009My fondest memory of staying with my grandmother is her quilts. The feeling of lying under these quilts as a little girl is one of being weighted down to the bed by a soft yet incredibly heavy weight. What a cozy and safe feeling it was. All of the quilts were made of scraps that told a story. Old dresses and shirts recycled to make a beautiful pattern always fascinated me. By the time I was old enough to learn this art, my grandmother no longer quilted, so she could not teach me this skill.
