Sit Up Straight!
February 7th, 2010Do you ever give much thought to your posture? We medical transcriptionists spend a lot of time in front of the computer. There really is no choice. If you don’t stay in the chair, you don’t make any money. Chair time equals aches and pains. It can also equal some pretty severe problems that can create huge medical expenses. We have talked about those so let’s focus on a few of the little things. How about we start with back pain?
One Of Those Blessings I Was Talking About.
October 28th, 2009Okay, I just want to warn you that this is a little smarmy, but I wanted to write a bit about a good friend of mine today. You may have read my post about blessings. If so, this person is one of my blessings. She deserves a little time in the spotlight. Although, if she knew I was writing this she wouldn’t like it much. So we aren’t going to tell her until it is already posted, right? ![]()
We have been friends for about 18 years now. The time seems to fly when you’re having fun. Well, it hasn’t always been fun, but that’s the way life is. Even though life has been pretty tough sometimes, we have still remained friends even when the roller coaster was making that horrible ratcheting noise up the hills. I’d like to tell you why.
This woman is one of the most selfless people I know. I have known her to care for the dying, loan money and never be paid back, help people move, help lay tile in a friend’s kitchen, answer calls in the middle of the night from friends who just lost a loved one and didn’t know what to do, give generous gifts, cry with people, defend loved ones like a pit bull, and all while suffering absolutely devastating life events herself. She’s just the type of person you want in your corner. She’s pretty funny too.
I know that I can always depend on her to be there when I need her. I hope she can say the same about me. She’s just one of the best people I know and I wanted to make sure she knows it.
It may seem a little childish to talk about best friends when you get to be my age, but she really is my best friend.
Count Your Blessings
October 1st, 2009Everyone has problems and sometimes these problems can seem to be overwhelming. Life can seem to be like a continuous circle of small irritations and unbelievable turmoil. Everyday we run into molehills that can turn into mountains in the blink of an eye. So what do you do to keep your head up day after day against these odds?
911 Abuse
August 27th, 2009Working in an emergency room is certainly an unforgettable experience. EMTALA is the Emergency Medical Treatment and Active Labor Act. This governs the refusal of treatment or the transfer of someone who is medically unstable. EMTALA is overseen by CMS, Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, a division of the Department of Health and Human Services. It is responsible for the Medicare program and the development and enforcement of regulations on EMTALA. It covers hospitals who accept Medicare and Medicare patients. That means it covers most of the hospitals in this country. Some exceptions are Shriners hospitals and military hospitals.
Physicians on Retainer
August 21st, 2009Wow, the things you find when you read the news. I found this article on some physicians that have taken matters into their own hands with great results. I think this is a great idea. Just think of the ramifications of a system like this. Why this might even result in doctors who actually listen to their patients because they have time to. It might reduce the number of medications that patients, especially the elderly, are prescribed. It definitely will reduce the cost of processing claims. Although high prices are mentioned, some doctors are charging a reasonable amount per month. It is much less than what most people pay for insurance.
