Happy Valentine's Day!
February 14th, 2010I hope all of you have a wonderful Valentine's Day!
I thought about going out to dinner as I do every year, but instead I will be fixing surf and turf for us today. Chocolate cheesecake for dessert! Not to brag, but everyone who has had my cheesecake loves it.
Enjoy the day!
Happy Thanksgiving!
November 26th, 2009I hope everyone has a pleasant day today. No fake platitudes here. Eat all you want. Heck, go back for thirds and then have some dessert. Several desserts for that matter.
Enjoy your family and friends. Perhaps you could do a good deed for someone less fortunate. Whatever you do to celebrate, just be happy.
Forget your troubles for one day if you can.

I Have a Problem
November 8th, 2009Hello, my name is Serena and I am a bookaholic. I try to be frugal and use the library and other resources that are available. However, the main problem I have is that I am a re-reader. I have been known to read the same books over and over and over. In fact, there are many books that I have read to tatters. I have paperbacks that are held together with rubber bands and masking tape. I also have books that I am on the second, third, or sometimes fourth copy of because I have read them until they couldn’t be held together anymore. There are no 12-step programs available for this problem that I know of, so the problem continues. I am not the only family member with this problem.
A Most Wonderful Time
October 13th, 2009It’s coming! My favorite time of the year; fall and winter! I live in the South. I was born here. Unfortunately, I am a very unhappy person in hot weather. Yes, that makes the American South a really unpleasant place for me to be in the summer. It is hot, humid, and there are lots of growing things that make it miserable for someone who suffers from seasonal allergies. I wheeze and cough like an old steam engine. I live on Benadryl. This is an all round bad situation for someone that hates the heat but loves to garden.
Rag Quilting Tutorial - Part 2
September 14th, 2009Okay here it is...
This is the finished quilt from the rag quilting tutorial. I think it turned out really well. The colors held up and it raveled out uniformly.
I would like to repeat that the main thing I believe needs to be purchased are a pair of the spring loaded clippers. They make the task of clipping the seams so much easier and faster.
This time I am going to use fabric paint to monogram one of the squares for the recipient. I haven't decided on the color yet.
To recap; You will need a sewing machine that is capable of sewing through several layers of fabric, the ability to measure and cut accurately, a sharp pair of scissors, fabric that will ravel, and a pair of those spring loaded clippers we talked about. It is a great hobby that I would encourage you to try.
