A Most Wonderful Time
It’s coming! My favorite time of the year; fall and winter! I live in the South. I was born here. Unfortunately, I am a very unhappy person in hot weather. Yes, that makes the American South a really unpleasant place for me to be in the summer. It is hot, humid, and there are lots of growing things that make it miserable for someone who suffers from seasonal allergies. I wheeze and cough like an old steam engine. I live on Benadryl. This is an all round bad situation for someone that hates the heat but loves to garden.

However, in the fall here come the perks. Check this out:
Beautiful, huh? We live about 30 minutes from the Blue Ridge Parkway. One of my favorite things to do is just to take a drive along the Parkway and see the fall colors. Even though we have seen the same stretch of Parkway many times, I never get tired of it. We always stop at the same overlooks and go to the same park. The big bonus is that living so close we can almost always find a time to go when it’s not as crowded as the weekends.
One of the greatest places to visit is the Moses Cone house. The house itself is really beautiful. However, the biggest draw for me is the tremendous views from the house. If you are ever in this direction so take the time to visit. You won’t be sorry. It really is beautiful any time of year.
Yep, the biggest reason I stay here in the South is the fall. Sometimes the season is better than other years. Obviously, the weather plays a large part in this. It’s disappointing when the leaves just sort of turn brown and drop off. Then there’s the good years when the color show is great, the weather is crisp, and the sky has that color of blue that makes you know its fall just by looking up.
My windows are open all the time now. I am thinking about going through my closets and looking over the winter stuff to see what needs to be mended or cleaned for cold weather wear. The basket I store mittens, gloves, and scarves in comes out. Just picture the Snoopy dance and you will have a really good idea of how I feel.
Now all I have to hope for is this:
I start wishing for snow long about July. Around this time of year I start really wishing for it. By the end of November all my toes and fingers will be crossed. We usually don’t get much, but I never lose hope.
My friend in Colorado woke up to 3 inches of snow on the ground already. She’s bummed about it since it seems that they skipped fall. However, I am pea green with envy. I am worse than a child about snow. I have been known to wake my daughter up at 3 am because it’s snowing a little. Then we both do the Snoopy dance.
Did I mention that fall and winter are my favorite seasons?
